St. Mark's Episcopal Church is said to be haunted by the ghost of a Swedish stonemason who died during the construction of the bell tower and was secretly buried within its walls. The legend claims the mason fell, and his partner sealed him inside the wall to hide the accident and avoid deportation. Reports of paranormal activity include unexplained voices, the organ playing by itself, strange sounds, and apparitions of figures, particularly around the tower and rector's study. The story centers on two Swedish immigrants working on the bell tower who were involved in a fatal accident. One of the masons, fearing deportation, secretly sealed the body of his deceased friend inside the tower's wall. The ghost of the trapped mason is said to remain, resulting in reports of poltergeist-like activity. Unexplained whispers, disembodied voices, and the church organ playing by itself when no one is present are commonly reported. There have been sightings of figures walking around the church and inexplicable banging sounds, possibly coming from the boiler or the restless ghost. Psychics and other visitors have been so frightened they demanded to be removed from the church.
