Old Faithful Inn, Yellowstone National Park
The most famous ghost story at the Old Faithful Inn is that of the headless bride, whose body was found in a bathtub after a fight with her husband, who then disappeared. Her head was discovered days later in the Crow's Nest, a lounge area, and guests report seeing a woman in a white dress descending the stairs from that area with her head tucked under her arm. The legend states the bride was a rebellious heiress who eloped and was murdered by her husband after their dowry was lost to gambling and drinking. A newlywed couple, the bride a rebellious heiress and the groom a "lowly" servant, honeymooned at the Old Faithful Inn. After a heated argument, the husband storms out of their room, never to be seen again. Hotel staff find the bride in the bathtub, bloody and without her head. Her head is found days later in the Inn's famous "Crow's Nest". Guests and staff have reported seeing a woman in a white dress with her head tucked under her arm descending the stairs from the Crow's Nest. The ghost is often seen on the grand staircase or descending from the Crow's Nest. She is described as a woman in a white dress, sometimes floating or drifting silently. While the story is widely known, Yellowstone National Park Lodges' interpretive specialist has stated the story is made up. Some staff, however, continue to report sightings.
