Acme Theatre, Riverton
The Acme Theatre in Riverton, Wyoming, is rumored to be haunted by a shadowy figure in the balcony and other paranormal activity linked to its long history as a vaudeville and movie house. For years, employees and patrons have reported seeing a shadowy, human-like figure in the balcony, even when the theater is empty. The apparition is believed by some to be the spirit of a vaudeville performer from the theater's early days. The Acme was built in 1920 and hosted vaudeville and silent film shows before "talkies" were introduced. According to local accounts documented by the Fremont County Museums, the sound of popcorn crunching can sometimes be heard inside the empty theater. The theater's reputation for being haunted has attracted the attention of paranormal investigators, including the Riverton Wild West Paranormal Society, which has reportedly conducted investigations there.
