The Walker House, Mineral Point

The Walker House in Mineral Point, WI, is described as having a ghost of Edward Caffy, a fugitive who hid in the house in 1846 before being hanged for murder. Staff and owners have reported ghostly presences and voices since the 1960s, though exorcists in 1982 believed these spirits, including Caffy's, may have been released. The building has been remodeled, and while some visitors claim continued encounters with "presences," the Walker House website states there is no comprehensive narrative of the hauntings. In 1846, Edward Caffy committed a shooting and hid from the law in the Walker House building. He was eventually apprehended and hanged in Mineral Point in November of that year. The ghost of Caffy was believed to have returned to the Walker House, with sightings and encounters reported by staff in the 1960s and 1970s.
