Stories of paranormal activity and ghostly sightings have long been associated with the Institute Saloon in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. It is reportedly haunted by a spirit believed to be a former owner, as well as by other disembodied entities. For over two decades, co-owner Dennis Schartner reported hearing strange things and seeing shadows at closing time. He attributes this energy to Mabel, a previous owner who ran the Institute from the 1950s until 1992. The saloon is known for mysterious noises that defy explanation. These reports include whispers, unusual scraping noises, and the occasional sound of a footstep in an otherwise empty area.
