The Patrick Henry Hotel, Roanoke
The Patrick Henry Hotel, now a mixed-use apartment and office complex, is known for multiple paranormal activities centered around several resident ghosts. The most infamous haunting is said to occur in Room 606, but other spirits are believed to roam the ballroom and hallways. According to local lore, a young airline stewardess was murdered by an unknown killer in Room 606 sometime in the 1980s. Her body was reportedly left in the bathtub. Some visitors and occupants report seeing the flight attendant's ghost in Room 606, while others have witnessed the bathtub filling with bloody water. The spirit is said to be active, with reports of guests experiencing her touch. A parapsychology class once visited the room, where some students reported experiencing the eerie phenomena firsthand. Another prominent spirit is "Miss Lucy," an elderly woman who reportedly died in her apartment at the hotel. She is said to still roam the building's hallways. Hotel staff and flight crews reported seeing her apparition—described as a woman in a long white dress. One flight attendant reportedly fled her room in the middle of the night after seeing a staircase appear on her wall and a lady descend it and cross the room. Some have seen the ghost of a man in 1920s-era clothing, who sits at a table on the second floor, smoking a pipe and kicking the tablecloth. Three other ghosts are said to reside in the ballroom, where they keep a watchful eye on activities. In addition to apparitions, visitors and tenants have reported hearing strange sounds, including unexplained footsteps and loud bangs.
