The Glencoe Inn, Portsmouth
The Glencoe Bed & Breakfast in Portsmouth, Virginia, is a historic 1890 Victorian home with an attic, a basement, and a haunted reputation. The ghostly phenomena reported there include objects being moved by unseen forces, apparitions, and a sense of being watched. Hauntings at the Glencoe have been reported for decades, with accounts from neighbors in the 1960s and more recent paranormal claims. A neighbor in 1962 reported that a mattress was pulled as if by someone tugging it. Another time, items were thrown out of the house and smashed in the street. More recently, figurines on the mantle have reportedly fallen off by themselves. During a renovation to create a new rose garden, it was claimed that ghostly entities helped with the project. One neighbor who lived near the inn was so disturbed by paranormal activity that they had trouble sleeping. They specifically reported seeing a rocking chair moving on its own. Renovations and restorations at the inn are said to have stirred up these ghostly entities.
