Lee-Fendall House, Alexandria
The Lee-Fendall House is rumored to be haunted by a female apparition in period clothing, a crying woman, and a woman singing a lullaby, though some claims may stem from the site's former use as a Union Army hospital during the Civil War and the resulting historical context. Other reported paranormal activity includes unexplained jingling sounds and feelings of dread, often associated with the back staircase and the second-floor landing. Visitors and staff have claimed to see a female figure in period clothing, as well as a woman and a child on the former servant's staircase. Unexplained jingling, similar to a 1930s telephone, has been reported. Some tours also note accounts of hearing a woman singing a lullaby or a woman crying. Individuals have reported feelings of dread or unease, particularly on the second-floor staircase.
