Wilson Castle, Proctor
Wilson Castle in Proctor, Vermont, is widely considered a highly haunted location, with frequent reports of paranormal activity and at least six or seven resident spirits. Its ghostly reputation is attributed to its tragic early history and the intense spiritual energy that paranormal investigators say congregates there. Visitors and staff have heard distant music, quiet conversations, unexplained footsteps, and even furniture being dragged across locked floors. Items have been known to turn on by themselves, such as a vacuum cleaner or the castle's old furnace, which hasn't been in use for 50 years. Reports include seeing shadowy shapes moving under the stairs and a figure peering around a corner on the third-floor hallway. Items stolen from the castle, such as an eight ball from the antique pool table, have mysteriously been mailed back to the estate. Guests have felt unexplained cold spots or warm spots, and some report a feeling of sadness or heaviness in specific areas, especially near windows. Paranormal investigations have captured EVPs, which are disembodied voices or sounds picked up by recording devices. Ghosts have appeared in photographs, with one resembling an earlier Wilson family member. Sarah's Pink Room: Originally the bedroom of Lady Sarah Johnson, this area is consistently named as the most active and is associated with feelings of sadness. A woman in a black and white dress, possibly Sarah, has been seen looking out the windows or appearing in this room. Servants' Quarters: The servants' rooms are said to have a more ominous, heavier atmosphere than the rest of the castle. Third Floor: Inexplicable noises like dragging furniture have been heard from this locked area. Some investigators believe that a vortex exists near the front of the house and a spirit portal may be located in a closet in Sarah's bedroom, allowing entities to pass through.
