Stephen F. Austin State University's Griffith Hall, a part of the Griffith Fine Arts Building, is associated with a ghost named Chester who allegedly plays with stage lighting, jams equipment, and causes missing food from refrigerators, while a separate story claims a female resident jumped to her death after a Ouija board reading on the third floor. According to SFA student-run publications and the university itself, the following hauntings have been reported at Griffith Hall: The Ghost of Chester: Students and faculty have reported instances of lights flashing on and off in the building without any operators present. Chester is also blamed for jamming copiers, malfunctioning equipment, and mysteriously missing food from refrigerators, particularly during late-night work sessions. Some believe Chester may be the spirit of a former theatre employee who still occasionally appears in "the cave," an area adjacent to the costume shop. An older, separate story suggests that a female resident on the third floor of Griffith Hall jumped to her death after reading an unfavorable Ouija board prediction.
