Goatman's Bridge, Copper Canyon
Goatman's Bridge (Old Alton Bridge) in Denton, Texas, is haunted by a goat-like beast and the vengeful spirit of Oscar Washburn, a Black goat farmer who was brutally lynched by the KKK in the 1930s. Visitors report seeing glowing red eyes, hearing hoofbeats and the Goatman's snarling, smelling sulfur, and sometimes being touched or having rocks thrown at them, especially when they turn off their car lights at midnight or knock on the bridge three times. A Black farmer named Oscar Washburn owned a goat farm near the bridge. He reportedly had a sign on the bridge that led to his downfall. In one version of the story, the KKK lynched Washburn from the bridge, but his body vanished from the noose. In another, Washburn and his family were victims of a racially motivated attack on the bridge. Glowing red eyes, shadowy figures, and glimpses of the goat-headed beast. Hoofbeats, snarling, and ghostly whispers. Being touched, grabbed, or having rocks thrown at you. The smell of sulfur and death.
