The Alexander Inn, now a senior living facility called the Alexander Guest House, is rumored to be haunted by former guests and workers from the Manhattan Project era. The original inn was built in 1943 to house scientists and dignitaries involved in the secret project. A common report is the sound of disembodied footsteps walking up the stairs. One member of the Office of Paranormal Studies reportedly heard a voice during an investigation. Some visitors have reported seeing a spirit looking through the window curtains from the outside. In addition, some people who stayed at the hotel have claimed to have seen blood on the walls. The inn's secretive past may contribute to its spooky reputation. During the Manhattan Project, many guests, including Nobel laureate Enrico Fermi, stayed under fake names. This history of secrets and important, high-pressure visitors is part of the inn's lore.
