While most of Rockerville, South Dakota, is an abandoned ghost town, the Gaslight Restaurant and Saloon is reportedly haunted by a friendly spirit. Other ghost tales are part of the larger paranormal lore of the Black Hills region. The Gaslight Restaurant and Saloon is said to be haunted by the friendly ghost of Samuelson Harney. Harney was known to haunt the historic Harney Hotel in nearby Rapid City. After that hotel was demolished in 1976, Harney's bar was moved to the Gaslight Saloon in Rockerville, and his spirit apparently came along with it. Harney is often seen greeting customers at the door or playing harmless pranks on the staff by moving objects around.
