Poogan's Porch, Charleston
Poogan's Porch is haunted by at least two main entities: Zoe, a former resident and schoolteacher who haunts the restaurant after her death in 1954; and Poogan, a dog who was left on the property when new owners took over in 1976. Zoe is known for appearing as a pale woman in a black dress, often seen in the restaurant's mirrors and bathrooms, and is associated with mysterious occurrences like furniture moving and doors slamming. Poogan's spirit is felt as a brush of fur against a guest's leg, a comforting presence of the beloved dog who guarded the porch. The Ghost of Zoe Saint Amand: A local schoolteacher who lived in the building that is now Poogan's Porch with her sister, Elizabeth. After Elizabeth died, Zoe was alone. She became angry when the building was renovated into a restaurant in 1975. Zoe appears as a pale, elderly woman, sometimes in a black dress, and has been seen walking through dining rooms, in the front door, and by the bar. Women have reported seeing her reflection in bathroom mirrors, but no one is there when they turn around. Knocking over glasses, slamming doors, turning on bathroom sinks, and even pushing guests. One account describes Zoe making a bar stool fly across the room when she was unhappy with changes made to the building.
