Some toilets have been known to flush by themselves. Doors have been observed opening and closing without any apparent cause. A "prankster ghost" is said to move maid carts from one end of the hall to the other when they are left unattended. Room 302 is believed to be one of the most haunted areas in the hotel. The building opened in 1898 as the Hotel Aiken before being renamed the Commercial Hotel after a remodel in 1929. It now operates under the name Holley House.
