Graniteville Cemetery's haunted reputation centers on the grave of "The Little Boy," a nameless child who died in 1855 after arriving in town by train, who was then buried with a simple headstone marking him as such. Legend says his ghost plays with toys that visitors leave on his grave, a tradition that continues to this day, with some people leaving toys on the grave to honor him. In 1855, an unconscious, unidentified boy was brought to Graniteville by train and taken to the old hotel (now the site of Leavelle McCampbell Middle School), where he died before his identity could be discovered. The boy was buried in Graniteville Cemetery with a headstone simply reading "THE LITTLE BOY October 1855". Soon after his burial, stories began to circulate about the ghost of a little boy seen playing with the toys left on his grave.
