The Omni Bedford Springs Resort in Bedford, Pennsylvania, is known for its haunted history, with numerous tales of ghostly encounters and paranormal activity tied to its long history. Stories include sightings of former soldiers, phantom children, and disembodied voices. Employees in the reservations office have reported seeing an apparition of a ghost sitting in one of the cubicles. The ghost is said to type on the keyboard and can be witnessed by staff. Guests and visitors have claimed to encounter spirits of former soldiers, possibly from the War of 1812, which are sometimes captured in photographs. Some guests also report seeing the ghosts of small children. A security officer once reported seeing a shadow of a man on a wall in the Bosworth section of the hotel. When the officer stepped aside to let the man pass, there was nobody there, but the shadow, wearing a stovepipe hat, disappeared. Disembodied voices have been reported by guests in the historic spring-fed pool, startling people during a swim. In the Colonial Building, the voice of a young girl is sometimes heard echoing in the halls. In a room on the tenth floor, some guests have been kept up all night by the sound of a rocking chair, even though there are no rocking chairs in the room. Elevators in the resort have been known to travel to the third floor without being called by a guest. Bellmen have reported seeing glowing orbs of light floating down the corridor on the tenth floor. The paranormal activity is often attributed to the resort's long history, dating back to 1796.
