Hotel Conneaut, Conneaut Lake
The Hotel Conneaut in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, is known for its haunted reputation, with many guests reporting paranormal experiences during their stays. The primary ghost story involves a phantom bride named Elizabeth, who is said to have perished in a fire in 1943. According to the story, Elizabeth was a newlywed or on the verge of her wedding when lightning struck the hotel on April 29, 1943, causing a fire that consumed part of the building. While her husband allegedly escaped, Elizabeth returned to the burning building to search for him and became trapped, perishing in the flames. Though there is no official record of a death at the hotel during this time, her legend is the source of many of the hauntings. Elizabeth's spirit is said to remain at the hotel, particularly in the old wing and possibly in room 128. Many people attribute various ghostly activities to her presence. Witnesses have reported smelling sweet scents like roses or jasmine, especially when Elizabeth is believed to be present. Guests and staff have heard voices and footsteps, particularly those of children. Reports include objects being moved by unseen forces, doors opening and closing on their own, and flickering lights. Shadowy figures have been seen in the hallways, and a staff member once saw Elizabeth's ghostly image in a mirror. A figure in a window was once seen from outside, though the room was locked and empty. Besides Room 128 in the old wing, other rooms like 319 and 320 have had paranormal reports, with one ghost hunter becoming so unnerved in Room 320 that he refused to stay there.
