The First Bank of the United States is rumored to be haunted by its creator, Alexander Hamilton, whose ghost is said to wander the historic halls. Other alleged paranormal phenomena include rapid battery drainage for electronics, and general tech glitches, fueling beliefs that Hamilton's spirit, and possibly that of financier Stephen Girard, lingers in the building long after its 40 years of public closure. Local legends suggest the ghost of Alexander Hamilton, the bank's founder, still walks the building. Some accounts also mention the presence of Stephen Girard, another prominent financier. A common claim is the sudden draining of cell phone and camera batteries, or other unexplained tech malfunctions, as if something or someone is interfering with their operation. After decades of being closed to the public, the building is believed to be far from empty, its halls supposedly still holding the energy and presence of its former occupants.
