Easton Area Public Library, Easton
The Easton Area Public Library is widely reported to be haunted due to its construction on the site of a former graveyard. Reports of paranormal activity include wailing sounds, books flying off shelves, opening doors, and sightings of apparitions. The library's Carnegie building, which opened in 1903, was built on top of an old graveyard. While most of the remains were moved, more than 30 graves were reportedly left in place, eventually paved over for the library's parking lot. Some locals say indentations in the ground near the parking lot are visible signs of where graves remain. One of the most common reports is the sound of a baby wailing from within the building, believed by some to be connected to the spirits of the unmarked graves. Witnesses have described seeing books and other items inexplicably fly off shelves. Latched doors in the library have been seen opening on their own. During an event at the library, a crowd member reported seeing a glowing apparition. Some believe the building's spirit is that of a former longtime librarian who still roams the stacks.
