Tillie Pierce House Inn, Gettysburg
The Tillie Pierce House Inn in Gettysburg is widely considered one of the most haunted locations in a city known for its paranormal activity. The house was used as a makeshift hospital during the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863, and many wounded soldiers were treated or died within its walls. The spirits of these soldiers, as well as Tillie Pierce herself, are said to linger. The Blue Room: This is believed to be the most active and haunted area of the inn. Guests have reported feeling pressure on their mattress, as though someone unseen has sat on their bed. Full-blown apparitions have been seen sitting on the edge of the beds. Apparitions of Civil War soldiers have been spotted throughout the inn. A patrolling soldier is a common sight, reportedly seen marching up and down the staircase before vanishing. Visitors have heard footsteps marching in the halls and in the attic above the Blue Room. Disembodied voices, unexplained noises, and the distinct sound of a woman sobbing have also been reported. In addition to soldiers, spectral children have been seen playing in the inn before disappearing. A mischievous poltergeist is also said to inhabit the house, known for moving or "nicking" guests' possessions. A ghostly cat has also been reported in the Hettie Shriver Room. It is believed that the ghost of Tillie Pierce, who was only a teenager when she bravely aided the soldiers, still wanders the hallways of the inn. She is sometimes seen as a young girl in a white dress. Cold spots, sudden drops in temperature, and the feeling of being watched have all been documented by visitors.
