Sumpter Bed and Breakfast, Sumpter
The Sumpter Bed and Breakfast, formerly the Sumpter General Hospital, is rumored to be haunted by a number of spirits connected to its past as a hospital and Masonic lodge. The building was constructed in 1900 to treat injured miners, many of whom died there. Shadowy figure "Jedidiah": This malevolent spirit reportedly avoids communication and has been associated with disembodied footsteps and other odd noises. A paranormal investigation on the show The Dead Files confronted a group of aggressive spirits, though it's unclear if this entity was among them. Guests and employees have allegedly seen a ghost shaving in an upstairs bathroom. Due to its history as a hospital and later a Masonic lodge, the staircase is believed to be a hotspot for residual hauntings, with motion detectors being triggered by an unseen presence. The show The Dead Files investigated the B&B and encountered reports of aggressive female spirits who drain the energy of the living. Reports include televisions turning on and off by themselves, objects moving on their own, and spikes in ghost-hunting equipment readings. Despite its haunted reputation, many guests on Tripadvisor report a pleasant, apparition-free stay and commend the welcoming atmosphere, historical setting, and comfort of the inn.
