Oregon Caves National Monument, Cave Junction
The Oregon Caves Chateau is associated with the ghost of a young bride named Elizabeth, who allegedly hanged herself in her room (Room 310) on her wedding night, and whose spirit is said to wander the hallways and cause phenomena like moving furniture, open windows, and sounds of moaning or dropped items, especially on the third floor. The National Park Service considers these claims unlikely, but the legend is a prominent part of the Chateau's history. The story centers on Elizabeth, a bride who died by suicide in the Chateau's Room 310. Her spirit is said to be most active in Room 310, in the hallways, and in the third-floor linen closet. Witnesses and folklore describe poltergeist-like activity, such as: Windows opening and closing on their own. Furniture moving or suitcases being repacked. Moans and crying heard in the linen closet. Items being dropped, and pots and pans banging in the kitchen. The National Park Service believes it's unlikely that Elizabeth's ghost haunts the Chateau.
