Jacksonville Inn, Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Inn is considered haunted due to its location within Jacksonville, Oregon's National Historic Landmark District, and the history of the building itself. While not described as a single story, the building was the site of its owner Patrick Ryan's death in an 1873 fire, an event that may contribute to the spirits that are said to linger in the area's historic buildings. The building was originally a mercantile store built by Irish immigrant Patrick Ryan in 1861. In April 1873, the building was destroyed by a fire, which killed Ryan and resulted in significant losses. Within a year, Ryan rebuilt on the same foundation, constructing a two-story brick mercantile warehouse that he later expanded to three stories. The building is located in a town with a rich history of hauntings, which is explored on Historic Jacksonville, Inc.'s "Haunted History" walking tours.
