Dammasch State Hospital, Wilsonville
Dammasch State Hospital, a former psychiatric facility in Wilsonville, Oregon, was known as a hotspot for paranormal activity and ghostly encounters following its closure in 1995. The hospital was demolished in 2005, but its sinister reputation continues to fuel local legends. Dammasch operated from 1961 until it was shuttered after Disability Rights Oregon exposed inhumane living conditions and the deaths of multiple patients. This dark past is believed to be the foundation for the persistent claims of hauntings. Visitors to the abandoned hospital reported hearing unexplained noises, such as footsteps and the jangling of keys, echoing through the empty halls. Residents who grew up near the hospital described a feeling of dread and unease, stating the overall energy of the property was "very eerie". One witness claimed to have seen what appeared to be "old blood on walls through the windows" of the building. The hospital's system of underground tunnels added to its creepy atmosphere, with many believing them to be particularly haunted. After the hospital was demolished and housing was built on the site, a fire mysteriously burned down the new buildings just a year later. It was officially deemed of "unnatural" and unsolved origin, with many attributing it to paranormal forces. Following the demolition, reports of paranormal activity continued in the surrounding streets, including sightings of young girls and floating orbs.
