According to local lore, the haunting on Hemphill Road in Roundhead, Ohio, centers on a house once owned by a man named Robert Hemp. It is rumored that Hemp is buried beneath the front porch of the house, and he is the source of the paranormal activity experienced by the home's various residents over the years. Many former residents of the house report seeing a mysterious male figure in a top hat. Throughout the house, strange and unexplained noises have been reported. One family reported that clothes stored in a closet under the stairs would sometimes be found scattered on the floor. The dial on their television would also reportedly turn by itself, though the channel would not change. Another family noted that they would keep the heat at 80 degrees, but one room in the basement would remain freezing cold. One family kept a bible open to a specific verse, and reportedly found it opened to a different verse each time they returned home. The new verse was allegedly the same one read at Hemp's funeral. There is also a rumor that a second, unknown individual is buried under the home's porch. This is based on evidence that a basement wall was once torn out, as if someone was attempting to rob a grave.
