Cincinnati Music Hall, Cincinnati

Cincinnati Music Hall is known for being one of Ohio's most haunted locations due to being built on a former graveyard and pest house site, where hundreds of bones have been unearthed. Visitors and staff report various phenomena, including seeing shadow figures and apparitions in period clothing, hearing disembodied music and whispers, and experiencing unexplained movements of the freight elevator. These occurrences are attributed to the spirits of the dead who were buried on the grounds, possibly from an orphanage, asylum, or cholera epidemic. The most common explanation is that the building sits atop a pauper's cemetery, where hundreds of people, including victims of epidemics and the forgotten, were buried without coffins. The land was also used for a pest house for the unwanted, a military hospital, and an asylum, contributing to the presence of residual energy. Shadow figures: have been seen walking in aisles and hallways and disappearing into walls. Apparitions: of people in period clothing have been witnessed, particularly in the Springer Auditorium. A small girl with ragged hair and yellow teeth was reportedly seen by a repairman under the stage. Disembodied music has been heard, with no identifiable source. Whispers have been heard in Corbett Tower. Footsteps of hard-soled shoes have been heard by a night guard. The building's freight elevator has been known to move randomly between floors, even with people inside, and its light can come on without explanation. Bells have been heard ringing from the box office when no one was present. Human bones and fragments have been found during excavations and renovations multiple times since the building's construction. Ghost hunters have recorded electronic voice phenomena (EVP) and electromagnetic field (EMF) readings within the building.
