Bonnyconnellan Castle, Sidney
Bonnyconnellan Castle in Sidney, Ohio, is rumored to be haunted by a man in a blue uniform. The ghost is said to appear on the staircase, observing a wedding dress on display. Built in 1886 for John D. Loughlin, the owner of the Sidney School Furniture Company. Loughlin, the son of Irish immigrants, is believed to have based the design on a castle in his parents' native County Cork, Ireland. It was a 22-room Romanesque-style residence featuring elaborate Victorian woodwork, custom hardwood floors, and a free-standing staircase. The name "Bonnyconnellan" is an Irish term for "beautiful woman". In addition to the man in the blue uniform, reports of other ghostly phenomena have been documented over the years. The Shelby County Historical Society has noted stories of a family fleeing the home after hearing noises in the basement. Another account describes the sounds of a children's party coming from the cellar.
