The Old Licking County Jail in Newark, Ohio, is considered one of America's most haunted locations, drawing paranormal investigators and tourists. Reported activity includes suicides and inmate deaths, as well as the deaths of four sheriffs who suffered fatal heart attacks while on duty in the attached residence. Reported paranormal phenomena include: Cell doors slamming, Being touched, with some spirits described as "touchy-feely", Whispering or growling in the ear, Jingling keys, Disembodied screams and moans, Footsteps and other unexplained noises, Unusual light anomalies and shadow figures, Orbs and other unexpected images appearing in photos. In October 1935, a local horse farmer named W. Robinson killed his girlfriend before hanging himself in his cell. The activity associated with his spirit includes being touched on the elbow or ear. Martin Kelly, an inmate, took his own life with a straight razor in the jail's shower unit. Visitors and investigators have reported hearing whispers and growls connected to his presence. In 2014, the Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures filmed an episode at the jail, during which a shadow figure named "Davey" was reportedly captured in a photo. A local paranormal investigator featured on the show claimed the spirit followed her home.
