Old Hercules Engine Factory, Canton
The haunted stories of Canton's former Hercules Engine Factory, now known as the Factory of Terror haunted house, revolve around its dark and morbid history. The site's paranormal activity is said to be caused by victims of a historical disease outbreak, as well as an aggressive spirit in a former army training unit. During a cholera epidemic in the late 1800s, the facility's cold storage unit was supposedly used as a makeshift morgue for the deceased. Unable to bury bodies fast enough, workers stored the unclaimed dead at the factory. The grave markers were allegedly later removed, but the bodies were never moved. This macabre history forms the core of the location's haunted lore. Paranormal investigators and visitors have reported several frightening experiences at the former factory: In a section that once served as an army training facility, a malevolent spirit is said to push or verbally threaten visitors. Strange, smoky figures have been sighted in the buildings where the army training unit was located. Disembodied voices are often heard echoing through the factory, even when no one else is around. Pockets of unexplained cold air frequently move through the cavernous factory. Factory appliances have been observed moving on their own. In the factory's oldest basement, dating to 1845, a strange haze and glowing orbs of energy have been reported.
