Lake County History Center, Painesville
The Lake County History Center is widely known for its paranormal activity, stemming from its time as the Lake County Poorhouse. Numerous stories from historically documented events are said to have contributed to the haunting. People have claimed to hear disembodied sounds of children laughing and a baby crying in the building. Chairs have been known to move mysteriously on their own. Guides and visitors have experienced ghostly encounters, with spirits believed to be the former residents who died there. According to local lore, the spirits may be more active during the summer solstice, making paranormal tours of the building especially eerie on that day. From 1852 until 2004, the building served as the Lake County Poorhouse (later known as the Lake County Home). During its 152 years of operation, it housed many residents, and some of the more "disturbing" stories from that time are often shared during the center's ghost tours.
