Salem College's supposed hauntings include reports of a student who hanged herself in the Gramley dormitory attic, a young girl who died in the Clewell dormitory elevator shaft, and the spirit of Mary Reynolds whose eyes seem to follow people from a painting in the Babcock dormitory's lobby. The Single Sisters building is also said to be haunted by pale, translucent women dressed in period clothing. A student is said to have hanged herself in the attic of Gramley dormitory. Some students report hearing dragging and scratching sounds, and even the sounds of marbles dropping in the middle of the night, possibly from a jar that was knocked over during the tragedy. Clewell Dormitory: A young girl is believed to have fallen down an elevator shaft in Clewell dormitory. Her presence is thought to linger in the building, with some attributing paranormal activity to her spirit. Babcock Dormitory: A painting of Mary Reynolds hangs in the lobby of Babcock dormitory, and her eyes are said to follow students as they pass by. Single Sisters Building: Students have reported seeing pale, translucent women dressed in period clothing in the windows of the Single Sisters building, especially late at night. One student described seeing a particularly vivid figure with deep-set eyes.
