Some staff and security have also reported witnessing elevator doors open and close on their own and elevators inexplicably traveling between floors with no passengers. The most commonly reported activity is the elevator doors opening and closing by themselves, and the elevator traveling between floors with no one inside to operate it. The building's Capitol Historian notes that many unexplained incidents have occurred to staff and security personnel over the years, leading to many ghost stories associated with the Capitol.
