The Elizabeth Inn, once the Sabiston House, is said to be haunted by the ghost of Captain David Sabiston, who was bludgeoned to death on July 4, 1811, possibly by his slave Sal. Witnesses report that a spirit still haunts the grounds of the historic home, which was located on Front Street in Beaufort, NC. The property has since been closed. The spirit is believed to be Captain David Sabiston, who lived from 1750 to 1811. Sabiston was allegedly bludgeoned to death with an oar on July 4, 1811. His slave, Sal, was tried, convicted, and hanged for the murder. Visitors and witnesses claim that a spirit continues to haunt the grounds of the former home.
