The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is reportedly haunted by two main figures: a ghost cat that rubs against visitors' legs and vanishes when an attempt is made to pick it up, and a spirit known as "Bob" who wears a rain slicker and is seen within the lighthouse. Some stories also mention a shadowy gray man, a phantom keeper, and mysterious sounds, especially during storms. A large, black and white cat is said to roam the lighthouse grounds, greeting visitors by rubbing against their legs, but disappearing into mist if anyone tries to pick it up. Some accounts describe a former light keeper nicknamed "Bob," who is seen wearing a rain slicker inside the lighthouse. Another legend speaks of a shadowy gray man, possibly another phantom keeper, seen in the lighthouse. Visitors have reported hearing unexplained sounds, particularly on stormy nights.
