Biltmore Village Inn, Asheville
The Biltmore Village Inn (which was formerly known as the Reed House) in Asheville, NC, is described as a haunted location with reports of paranormal activity, including unexplained footsteps, doors opening and closing on their own, and Christmas trees toppling over. The Biltmore Estate, America's largest home, is also a site of alleged supernatural encounters, with visitors reporting feelings of being watched and the presence of spirits, such as Edith and George Vanderbilt, and phantom animals. Guests have reported hearing heavy footsteps on the stairs when no one is present. Doors to rooms, like the Circus and Lavender Rooms, have been seen opening and closing randomly. There are accounts of a Christmas tree crashing to the floor and billiard balls being moved or breaking apart on their own. The spirits of Edith and George Vanderbilt are said to be felt, especially in the Billiard and Oak Sitting Room, with some experiencing their laughter and screams. A headless orange cat has been reported dashing through the gardens and across Bass Pond. Visitors also report hearing whispers of "George," party sounds, and seeing figures on the stairs or experiencing cold spots.
