The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY, is home to several reported hauntings, with the most famous being the ghost of Molly, a former cook, who playfully ruffles bed linens and moves wine bottles. Another well-known ghost is Greer, a tall, somber figure often seen in a gray uniform, who is believed to have been a criminal with a troubled past. A particularly famous haunting involves a 1972 incident with a ghostly, cold cavalryman in Barracks Room 4714, which led to the room being declared vacant and closed off to cadets. An Irish cook for former superintendent Sylvanus Thayer, Molly is known for her playful, if mischievous, activities like rumpling bed linens and knocking wine bottles to the floor. A tall, slender African American man in a gray uniform, Greer is associated with guilt and sadness from a past murder, and is known for moving objects, even through closed doors. A shimmering apparition in a 1830s uniform, seen in Barracks Room 4714, this ghost was characterized by a piercing, freezing presence. Described as a middle-aged soldier in an 1830s uniform, the Pusher's presence reportedly causes an ice-cold sensation and immobility in victims. Ghosts at West Point are said to cause physical effects, such as moving objects, creating sudden cold spots, and leaving behind inexplicable rumpled bedsheets or moved items. Witnesses report feeling an unnerving "deep freeze" or being touched by an unseen hand, according to Facebook posts and other accounts. Even the ghost of Molly seems to want attention, with one account noting that the ghost's room has a bed that always appears slept in. Scott Barracks (Room 4714): The 1972 incident with the cavalryman led to Room 4714 being kept vacant and off-limits since that year. Old Cadet Barracks: The site of the Honor Hearings is also reportedly haunted. Reports of paranormal activity have also been noted in faculty and officer residences at the academy.
