In 1954, while going to get wine, she was decapitated in a car crash on Sears Pond Road. Not long after her death, people began reporting a headless apparition along Sears Pond Road and State Route 177. She is sometimes seen as a pale, ghostly woman, also described as calling out, or a headless spirit. Other reported phenomena include hearing a repetitious clinking of metal or the sound of an old car driving down the road.
