In 1942, a Coast Guard boat capsized during a storm, resulting in the deaths of six people, including the lighthouse keeper, while an attempt was being made to relieve the keeper at the lighthouse. Some Coast Guard members working at the lighthouse believe the spirits of the victims, particularly one of the victims, may still inhabit the structure. Seamen have reported occurrences they cannot explain, leading some to believe the lighthouse is haunted. These reported events include: Hearing voices and footsteps echoing through the lighthouse. Seeing lights flicker and glow in rooms that should have no lights on. Witnessing a light bulb unscrewed and placed on the floor. While these ghost stories are prevalent among some seamen, others have dismissed them as mere folklore.
