Burn Brae Mansion in Glen Spey, NY, is a Victorian estate with a reputation for intense paranormal activity, particularly since renovations began for its 100th anniversary in 2008. The mansion's hauntings are linked to its history, which includes serving as a family home, a boarding school, and a tea house. Visitors and paranormal investigators report numerous ghostly encounters, from full-bodied apparitions to disembodied voices. A frequently reported spirit is the apparition of a woman dressed in a white dress. Guests have witnessed the specter of a man in 19th-century attire. A third adult male figure, seen wearing overalls, is also reported to appear in the halls. More recently, the ghosts of an elderly couple, the Hapijs, who died in the home, are believed to haunt the mansion. They are sometimes seen playing chess by a window. Witnesses have also reported seeing unexplained shadow figures on the property. The sounds of children's voices, laughter, and bouncing balls are heard, believed to be the spirits of children who died young on the property. Visitors have reported hearing the distinct sound of a non-existent organ playing. Guests have heard disembodied footsteps and the sounds of babies crying. Reports include doors and objects mysteriously moving on their own. During an investigation on the TV show Ghost Nation, a hidden room was discovered behind a wall in a bedroom, where investigators found an old crib and a chair. The current owners believe some spirits, like the Gallaher family, are annoyed by the public events held at the mansion.
