The Double Eagle Restaurant in Mesilla, NM, is reportedly haunted by the spirits of Armando and Inz, a teenage couple from the 1860s who were tragically murdered at the residence by Armando's mother after she discovered their forbidden romance. Guests and staff have reported paranormal activity, including objects moving, lights flickering, unexplained footsteps, chilling cold spots, and voices calling out names, particularly in the Carlada Salon, the alleged site of the double murder. Two specific chairs in the salon, one worn from a dress and the other from pants, are said to be where the spirits rest. Forbidden love: Armando, the son of an affluent family, fell in love with Inz, a teenage servant girl. Armando's mother found the couple in his bedroom and, in a rage, fatally stabbed Inz with sewing shears. She also stabbed Armando as he tried to protect Inz; he died three days later. Their spirits are said to remain at the residence, which was built in 1849 and served as their home. The Carlada Salon: This room is considered the "ghost room" where the tragedy occurred. Two specific chairs in the salon, worn by a dress and a pair of pants, are said to be where the spirits sit. They are known to move on their own. Reports include heavy breathing, hissing, screams, and the sound of footsteps. Objects moving and lights turning on and off have been reported. Temperature changes: Some guests have experienced sudden, ice-cold sensations. A visitor once claimed their phone photos disappeared after touching the chairs. The spirits of Armando and Inz are sometimes blamed for mischievous teenage pranks, such as calling people's names and making sounds that lead people on a chase.
