Ayers-Allen House, Metuchen
The Ayers-Allen House in Metuchen, New Jersey, is considered haunted by entities from the colonial and Revolutionary War eras, including a woman in colonial attire who appears in the fireplace, a Revolutionary soldier, and a little boy named Peter. Visitors have reported seeing apparitions and experiencing unexplained phenomena, such as an antique spoon that appeared in the home of a former owner but later vanished. Paranormal investigators, such as Hans Holzer, have visited the house, documenting sightings of spirits linked to its long history. A female spirit, often described as being dressed in colonial clothing, is said to appear in the fireplace and move from room to room, following people. The presence of a Revolutionary War soldier has been noted, possibly due to the historical context of the house and the surrounding area. A young boy named Peter is another spirit said to inhabit the house. An additional sighting includes a man in black with a black hat walking out of the house. A woman who once owned the house received a sterling silver spoon from what she believed was the spirit of a Revolutionary soldier. The spoon later disappeared from her home, only to vanish completely from her silver drawer, according to a report.
