Thunderbird Lodge Historical Site, Incline Village
The Thunderbird Lodge in Incline Village is rumored to be haunted by the owner, George Whittell Jr., and a worker who died during construction of the property's unfinished indoor pool. Additionally, some visitors and psychics have reported seeing other spirits on the grounds, potentially including Jimmy Lee, a former chef who was mauled by a bear in 1954. George Whittell Jr.'s Ghost: The wealthy and eccentric owner is said to linger at the lodge, which he built as a lavish party estate. A worker died while building an unfinished indoor pool located in the underground tunnel system. Some believe his spirit, and even Whittell's superstitious sealing of the area, contribute to the alleged hauntings. Another story claims the ghost of a former chef, Jimmy Lee, can be seen after he was mauled by a bear on the property in 1954. Some psychic visitors and people working on the site have reported seeing shadowy figures or other unexplained phenomena, such as a man's full shadow walking across a room. The permanently sealed off pool, left untouched after the worker's death, adds to the unsettling mystery of the site.
