Silver Queen Hotel, Virginia City
The Silver Queen Hotel in Virginia City, Nevada, is famously haunted, primarily by the spirit of a sex worker named Rosie who is said to have taken her own life in Room 11 in the late 1800s. The hotel is considered one of the most haunted locations in the state and has been featured on paranormal shows such as Ghost Adventures. Rosie is the most well-known and active spirit haunting the hotel, and her presence is most frequently experienced in and around Room 11. Guests and staff have reported encountering her spirit in Room 11, the bar area, and on a long staircase in the building. An apparition of Rosie has been seen at the top of a long staircase. Whispers, growling, and voices have been heard by guests. Loud, heavy footsteps are often heard on what sounds like a wooden floor, despite the hotel being carpeted. Guests have reported rattling doorknobs and tapping on their doors. While Rosie is the most prominent ghost, other unsettling paranormal events have also been reported throughout the historic 1876 hotel. The Chapel: In the crypt-turned-wedding-chapel, paranormal investigators have captured orbs of light on camera when the room's lights are off. Tissues hung in the room remained perfectly still as the orbs moved around. Some guests have claimed to hear the phantom sound of a couple yelling and fighting, suggesting another haunting entity may reside there. Many guests have noted the distinctly different—and often unsettling—atmosphere the hotel takes on at night. Due to its age and lack of modern amenities, the old building creaks and groans, and guests have reported many unexplainable noises.
