The Haunted Castle House in Brumley, Missouri, is a historic property built in 1885 and widely considered one of the most haunted in the Midwest. It was featured on HGTV's Scariest House in America in 2024 and is known for its history of deaths, tragic events, and paranormal phenomena reported by multiple owners and investigators. The house was built in 1885 by Clark Martin on property that once belonged to Reverend Jacob Shaw McComb. Over its history, the property was owned by at least three different doctors who used it as both a residence and a doctor's office. Two of these doctors also served as county coroners, suggesting that autopsies may have been performed inside the house. Current and former residents have reported phantom noises, including the sound of a woman crying or weeping, five loud bangs on a closet door, and the giggling and humming of a little girl. Objects, particularly rocking chairs, have been known to move on their own. Beds have reportedly been unmade by themselves, and furniture has been heard moving upstairs when no one was there. Sightings include shadow people, a ghost cat, an older woman yelling silently in the dining room, and an older woman seen in the doll room. One owner reported seeing five different apparitions, including a young boy and three women. People have reported being touched by unseen forces. One owner was reportedly awoken by his pillow being pushed in by an unseen presence while hearing a male voice by his ear. Some reported activity, such as furniture moving upstairs, might suggest a residual haunting, where a past event is replayed. The current owners, Steve and Judy Skinner, have collected a number of potentially haunted artifacts, including bone dice, Victorian mourning brooches, and dolls. On-site items also include a headstone for a slave, a Viking sorcerer's pendant, and a pendant of Pazuzu.
