Guests and staff have claimed to see his apparition inspecting the property, and at least one guest has reportedly seen him in full military uniform. The most common sighting of the general's ghost involves him appearing to oversee the grounds, as if still responsible for the home he owned from 1826 until his death in 1858. Sighting in Room 30: One guest staying in Room 30 reported seeing the general in his full uniform. He is said to still be making the rounds at the inn. The legend: The General, a veteran of the Mexican-American War and former governor of Mississippi, is said to have purchased the mansion in 1826 and overseen its restoration. His connection to the home is so strong that his spirit is believed to have remained.
