The Grand Opera House in Meridian, MS (now known as the Riley Center) is rumored to be haunted by the spirit of a hanged maintenance worker, with alleged paranormal activity including unexplained electromagnetic spikes in the area of the death and an audio clip of a woman's voice saying, "I can hear". While paranormal investigations were once conducted, they are no longer permitted at the historic venue. The primary legend centers on the spirit of a maintenance worker who died by hanging on the property. Paranormal investigators reportedly detected unexplained surges in the electromagnetic field, particularly in the area where the maintenance man's death occurred. A notable finding from an investigation was an audio clip where a female voice was heard to say, "I can hear". While these investigations provided alleged evidence of paranormal activity, they are no longer allowed at the Grand Opera House/Riley Center.
