According to the legend, visitors have witnessed the statue of the late Mrs. Kelly appearing to cry. The legend of Laura Kelly's statue: In the late 1800s, Kosciusko banker and businessman Clement Clay Kelly was so heartbroken over the death of his young wife, Laura, that he commissioned an Italian sculptor to create a life-sized statue of her for her grave. Mr. Kelly reportedly wanted the statue to be as realistic as possible and even sent the sculptor some of his wife's clothing to achieve a lifelike likeness. To honor his deceased wife, Kelly also had a third story added to his house so he could see the statue from his window. Over time, reports began to surface of the statue appearing to weep, with tears seemingly coming from her marble eyes.
