The Landmark Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is rumored to be haunted, with ghost stories centered on its history as a federal courthouse and post office. The most well-known ghostly resident is said to be Jack Pfeiffer, a former gangster. The most prominent haunting story involves the spirit of Jack Pfeiffer, the owner of a speakeasy called Hollyhocks. In the 1930s, Pfeiffer was arrested and held at the courthouse, which is now the Landmark Center. He reportedly committed suicide in his cell, and his ghost is said to linger on the third floor and in the women's restrooms. Pfeiffer's spirit is described as enjoying the presence of women who are drinking and partying. Visitors and staff have reported bottles being tipped over, and alcohol has gone missing. Besides Jack Pfeiffer, other mysterious and possibly ghostly occurrences have been reported: Some people claim to have captured images of spirits in photos taken during events and parties at the center. It is believed that the other spirits seen or felt at the Landmark Center may be the ghosts of Pfeiffer's friends.
