The Fenton Hotel Tavern & Grille in Fenton, Michigan, is known as a paranormal hotspot with a variety of alleged hauntings. Built in 1856, the historic building is believed to be home to several spirits, from an old janitor to a mischief-making gentleman in a hat. Reported paranormal activity at the Fenton Hotel includes: Emery, the old janitor: Footsteps and "clomping" sounds can often be heard coming from the upstairs area where the janitor used to live. The gentleman at Table 32: One of the most famous tales involves a man in a top hat who appears at a specific table in the dining room, orders a drink, and disappears before it can be served. Staff also report that he tries to "piggyback" onto customers' orders. A separate, unknown gentleman wearing a hat is said to haunt the bar, where he is known to drink whiskey. Staff have also witnessed wine glasses moving by themselves across the bar. The hotel has a reputation for "friendly" spirits, though some of their actions are quite forward. For example, some servers have reported being hugged by a ghost, while others describe being touched or "goosed" while working. Some guests and staff have noted sudden drops in temperature, particularly in the third stall of the women's bathroom, where a suicide is rumored to have occurred. In addition to the mysterious customer, drinks have been known to vanish and glasses have been reported to shatter on their own. Strange, echoing voices and whispers have been heard, including a mocking voice over the PA system when no one was speaking. While less common, some have reported seeing full-body specters or a man's face floating in a second-story window.
